Ovulation Induction

What is ovulation induction?

Ovulation induction is based on the scheduling of sexual intercourse in the period close to ovulation, which contributes to achieving gestation, since an attempt is made to better coordinate the meeting in time between both gametes, ovum and sperm.

Guided intercourse is usually scheduled after ovary stimulation treatment, in order to generate a single or double ovulation which makes the process more effective.

The ovary stimulation process is monitored usually using transvaginal ultrasound. Once optimum follicle development has been reached, the time of spontaneous ovulation can be calculated or adjusted better by administering an ovulation-inducing hormone.

After ovulation, a progesterone support can be administered to supply any possible luteal insufficiency following ovary stimulation.

The pregnancy rate varies according to the age of the woman.

Indications of ovulation induction

This technique is suitable for young women (less than 35 years old), with a short sterile time (less than a year and a half), good ovarian reserve, patent tubes and a partner with a normal seminogram.

This treatment is also recommended for all those women who have ovulation disorders. These disorders are closely related to menstrual disorders such as amenorrhea.

Processes in ovulation stimulation

  1. Targeted relationships are usually scheduled after ovarian stimulation treatment, in order to generate a single or double ovulation that makes the process more efficient.

  2. The ovarian stimulation process is routinely monitored by vaginal ultrasound. Once optimal follicular development has been achieved, the moment of spontaneous ovulation can be calculated or better adjusted with the administration of a hormone that induces ovulation. After ovulation, a progesterone support can be administered to replace a possible luteal insufficiency after ovarian stimulation.
