May 9th, 2024 Single Mother by Choice: Treatment Options to Fulfill Your Dream Being a single mother is a brave and beautiful decision, reflecting a deep desire to create a family. If you are a woman longing to embark on this journey, we want you to know that you are not alone. At Gravida, we understand your dreams and are here to offer personalized solutions to help you achieve your goal of becoming a mom. There are different options for you to start the journey towards motherhood, such as Artificial Insemination with Sperm Donor (AID), In Vitro Fertilization with Sperm Donor (IVF-D), and Embryo Reception. In this article, we will explore each of these alternatives so you can make an informed decision, and if you have any questions, we are just a call or a message away. Treatment Options for Single Motherhood 1. Artificial Insemination with Sperm Donor (AID) Artificial Insemination with Sperm Donor (AID) is a straightforward procedure that can be ideal for younger women with a good ovarian reserve and permeable fallopian tubes. How does AID work? Ovarian Stimulation: Gently stimulates eggs production with hormonal medications. Cycle Monitoring: A thorough tracking of the cycle is conducted through ultrasounds and hormonal tests to determine the optimal time for insemination. Semen Selection: A semen sample from an anonymous donor, selected from a sperm bank and subjected to rigorous quality and compatibility controls, is chosen. Insemination: The processed semen sample is introduced directly into the uterus during the most fertile moment of the cycle, ovulation. AID is a quick, minimally invasive procedure with good results in young women with a favorable prognosis. 2. In Vitro Fertilization with Sperm Donor (IVF-D) In Vitro Fertilization with Sperm Donor (IVF-D) is a more complex option than AID, but offers higher chances of success, especially in older women, those with fertility issues or decreased ovarian reserve. How does IVF-D work? Ovarian Stimulation: The ovaries are stimulated to produce multiple eggs through hormonal drugs. Semen Selection: A semen donor is selected, with the same quality guarantees as in AID, considering the phenotype (appearance) of the patient. Follicular Puncture: Eggs are extracted through a brief surgical intervention, performed under sedation. In Vitro Fertilization: The extracted eggs are fertilized in the lab with the donor’s semen, creating embryos. Embryo Culture: The embryos are cultured for a few days until they reach the optimal state for transfer. Embryo Transfer: The embryo with the highest potential for implantation is transferred to the uterus. IVF-D is a viable option for women who, due to age or health conditions, have limited chances of conceiving through artificial insemination. 3. Embryo Reception Embryo Reception may be an ideal option for you if your ovarian reserve is very low due to age or infertility issues. How does Embryo Reception work? Embryo Selection: The embryos come from couples who have completed their fertility treatment and have decided to donate the remaining embryos to help other women or couples start a family. These donated embryos meet the same requirements as the donated gametes. Selection is based on the phenotypic characteristics (appearance) of the patient. Endometrial Preparation: The recipient’s uterus is prepared to receive the embryos through hormonal treatment. Embryo Transfer: The selected embryo is thawed, and after a few hours in culture, it is transferred to the woman’s uterus.
