What does immunological treatment consist of?
During pregnancy, under normal conditions, a phenomenon occurs thanks to which the maternal immune system creates a tolerance towards the embryo allowing for the proper growth and development of the fetus. It is estimated that 10% of cases of implantation failures or recurrent miscarriages may be due to an alteration in the maternal immune system.
At Gravida, we offer the possibility of conducting immunological studies, in collaboration with the Clinical Immunology Laboratory of the Chicago Medical School, to select those patients who may benefit from a concomitant immunomodulatory treatment with assisted reproduction treatments.
While it is true that there is no clear scientific evidence regarding these types of treatments, which should still be considered experimental, the good results in correctly selected patients encourage us to offer them and continue researching.
In which cases is immunological treatment indicated?
Recurrent miscarriages without apparent cause after normal genetic, anatomical, and hormonal studies.
Detected immunological alterations in specific studies, such as elevated levels of NK cells, presence of antinuclear antibodies, antiphospholipids, or other autoimmunity markers.
Implantation failure after several in vitro fertilization cycles without achieving pregnancy, despite transfers of good quality embryos.
Dysregulation of the endometrial immune system, identified through endometrial biopsy or specific immunological analyses.
